Confirmation offers the chance for those who have previously been baptised as babies or young children to confirm their baptismal promises publicly. Confirmation also gives the candidate the opportunity to publicly declare their firm commitment to Christian discipleship and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop.

Children who have been baptised are encouraged to be admitted to receive communion. This can happen from around six years of age with the appropriate preparation. Confirmation, within the Perth Diocese, is offered at around 16 years of age.

Adults are often confirmed. Having been baptised as infants they have not yet professed their own faith and Baptismal vows. Confirmation affords them the opportunity to do so.
